HeadHunting Inc. is currently recruiting compassionate and experienced Child & Youth Counsellors to support children and youth requiring mental health and behavioural services.

We are looking for professionals who are passionate about helping young people navigate emotional, behavioural, social, and mental health challenges. Opportunities may include short-term, long-term, and urgent placements based on client needs.

Key Responsibilities

As a Child & Youth Counsellor, you will:

  • Provide therapeutic, emotional, behavioural, and crisis support to children and youth in a mental health setting.
  • Build positive and professional therapeutic relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Assess individual needs and contribute to the development and implementation of individualized treatment, behavioural, and support plans.
  • Utilize evidence-based therapeutic approaches to support emotional regulation, coping skills, behavioural management, and overall well-being.
  • Observe and document client behaviours, interventions, progress, incidents, and changes in condition accurately and professionally.
  • Support children and youth experiencing complex behavioural, emotional, social, or mental health challenges.
  • Work collaboratively with families, clinical teams, social workers, healthcare professionals, educators, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in crisis prevention, de-escalation, and intervention as required.
  • Advocate for the safety, dignity, rights, and individual needs of children and youth.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with organizational policies, professional standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have:

  • Child and Youth Counselling Diploma OR a Bachelor’s Degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Service, or a related behavioural science discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with children and youth in a mental health setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical understanding of evidence-based therapeutic approaches.
  • Current Broad Record Police Check.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong clinical documentation and reporting abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification/registration in good standing with a relevant professional body, such as OACYC, is preferred.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification is preferred.
  • Previous experience supporting children and youth with complex mental health and behavioural needs is considered an asset.
