Occupational Therapist, Development and Rehabilitation

POSITION SUMMARY
Our client is one of the few stand-alone, global leaders in Pediatric Health and is home to over 400+ staff and Physicians dedicated to helping children and youth live their best lives. The are currently looking for The Occupational Therapist who will work within the Children’s Treatment Centre.
This position will provide a range of client-focused interventions for preschool-aged children, their families and their child care providers in the community at child care providers
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Provide clinical services including assessment, intervention, and consultation for children that may present with physical and/or developmental disabilities
Prescription and fitting of orthotics, adaptive equipment and mobility devices
Work with the physician, patients, families, and inter-professional teams Communicate all pertinent information with the healthcare team, preschool and/or school, and community agencies in the most effective and efficient manner to plan, implement, and review the patient’s total care program.
Participate in ongoing education and training to remain up-to-date on best practice
Participate in the supervision and teaching of students and support personnel
Facilitate education and support groups for children/youth and families
Represent Occupational Therapy or Development and Rehabilitation on committees
Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives Assessment of fine motor skills, perceptual-motor and sensory integrative functioning, activities of daily living and emotional[1]behavioral development.
Provide client programs, training and consultation to families and the community as appropriate.
Makes appropriate recommendations for referrals to other programs and/or services as required.
Acts as a resource for community based Occupational Therapists
Maintains confidentiality in accordance with organizational policies and procedures related to privacy. Follows organizational policies and procedures related to safety, including reporting and follow-up for incidents/accidents and near misses, identification and management of risks and emergency procedures.
Follows routine precautions for infection prevention and control including proper hand hygiene.
Participates in education and improvement activities related to safety. Follows standards of practice for the profession regarding safe application of assessment protocols, therapeutic techniques and techniques for direct handling of clients.
Receives training in safe and effective use of equipment, ensures that any equipment used with client is clean and in proper working order; reports equipment in need of repair and maintenance.
Educates clients and their families and helps them understand their role in promoting safety. Receives training and maintains current knowledge of CPR and First Aid in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
Because of the changing nature of the job and the job requirements, duties and responsibilities may be added or deleted from time to time.
The Occupational Therapist may also provide some assessment and/or treatment for school-aged children in the Integrated Home and Community Care department. These services may be provided virtually, in client homes or in community schools.
QUALIFICATIONS
Vulnerable Sector Check (Essential)
Registration with the College of Occupational Therapist of Ontario (Essential)
Minimum of two (2) years experience with children who have physical and/or developmental disabilities. (Essential)
Neuro-developmental Therapy (NDT) training preferred. (Preferred)
Skills in the identification of the need for orthotics, adaptive equipment and mobility devices (Essential)
Skills in the assessment and ability to provide therapy for feeding difficulties (Essential)
Experience and/or interest in clinical research (Preferred)
Communicate effectively, orally and in writing (Essential)
Demonstrate excellence in interpersonal skills (Essential) • Comfort level and skill in preparing and delivering presentations (Essential)
Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle (Essential)
Bilingualism (English and French) (Preferred)
Authorizer for the Assistive Devices Program of Ontario for the prescription of mobility devices (Preferred)
